About Bruce
Bruce Melville is a native Texan and attended the University of North Texas before transferring to University of Houston where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He continued his education at University of Houston and received a Master’s degree in Music Theory.
Bruce has played trombone professionally in the Houston area for 28 years and has shared the stage with Dennis Dotson, Conrad Herwig, Randy Brecker, Bernadette Peters, Don Henley, and many more. He currently performs with a Houston original six-horn funk band, TKOh.
Bruce taught at Katy High School where he was the Director of Jazz Studies for seven years. He moved to the Dallas area and was the Director of Bands at South Grand Prairie High School. He then returned to Katy ISD as Assistant Director of Bands at Taylor High School, where he conducted the Jazz Band and the Symphonic Band.
Bruce is a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, International Trombone Association, and Texas Association Jazz Educators.

He has shared the stage with some of the most renowned musicians in the industry, such as Johnny Mathis, Bernadette Peters, The Temptations, and Don Henley, just to name a few. From his own quartet at Cezanne’s in Houston to playing alongside greats like Arnett Cobb, Jimmy Ford, and Conrad Herwig, Bruce’s musical journey is one not to be missed.

Private Lessons
Bruce has taught private trombone lessons in the Houston area for over 30 years. His students range from junior high beginners to young professionals. He teaches all low brass instruments including baritone, euphonium, or tuba. He has taught in Spring Branch ISD, Pasadena ISD, Deer Park ISD, Houston ISD, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, and Katy ISD. Book a Band
Bruce has been the band leader of his own groups at restaurants, private parties, weddings, and corporate events. He has led trios, quartets, quintets, or larger depending on the client’s needs and budget. Song lists can be provided or developed with the client as appropriate to the occasion and venue. Clinician/Judge
Bruce has conducted master classes at University of Houston and Stephen F. Austin State University for summer band camps for many years. He has also been a Region Jazz Band clinician and Guest Artist for Reg. IX and Reg. XIII. He has conducted concert bands at Katy ISD and Grand Prairie ISD, both receiving Sweepstakes. He has judged concert band, solo/ensemble contest judging and pre-UIL in Aldine ISD, Klein ISD, and Gulf Coast Intercollegiate Conference. Contact Bruce
